What is the Structural Reform of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Fellowship Training Program?


The Structural Reform of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Fellowship Training Program provides funding to support the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in the development of a flexible, more transparent Fellowship training program.

Why is this important?


The Structural Reform of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Fellowship Training Program is important because medical specialist training arrangements must keep pace with changes in health care delivery and demand. With the World Health Organisation (WHO) reporting that mental illness will represent 15% of the disease burden worldwide by 2020, it is important to train sufficient mental health professionals to meet with rising demand.

Who will benefit?


In the short term, trainees of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists will benefit from the structural reform of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists Fellowship Training Program. These benefits are expected to transfer to members of the public who require the services of a Psychiatrist.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, through a project reference committee will develop and implement a competency based curriculum and assessment program for trainees by 2013.

$1.8 million over 5 years ending June 2011 is available for this program through the Additional Education Places, Scholarships and Clinical Training in Mental Health measure.
